A still young heart, a restless hand,

An aimless thought I didn’t plan.

A swallow high—so far, so free—

And one small shot that shattered me.

Three stories high, the rooftop bare,

A swallow sat in morning air.

I raised my rifle to the sky—

No reason, just a reckless try.

The trigger clicked, the silence broke,

A sin took flight in powder smoke.

The swallow stirred, then pierced the blue,

And like a whisper, toward me flew.

Flying inches above the ground,

No time to cry, no turning 'round.

It brushed my left leg in full flight,

Its final move—a soul’s last rite.

It flew around me, close and tight,

No mercy left, no will to fight.

Then down it dropped with wings outspread,

And lay beside my right foot—dead.

The wing that brushed, the heart I killed.

The swallow fell with silent plea,

And died in trust, right next to me.

I looked below and there it lay,

A soul I’d stolen on that day.

Its feathers stained, its body torn,
